Failed a CeMAP unit? The smart way to prepare for a resit

First: a failed CeMAP unit is common and recoverable. The pass mark is 70% on every unit, which leaves little room for a weak topic area — plenty of capable people drop one unit on the first attempt. What matters is what you do differently before the resit.

What a resit costs

£120 per unit. Your first attempt at each unit is included in your registration fee (£735 if you register for all three modules together), so £120 is what a second attempt costs you — per unit, not per module. Diagnose before you revise

Your results feedback shows performance by syllabus area. Match your weakest areas to your revision plan instead of re-reading everything — re-reading the whole manual is the classic resit mistake, and it mostly re-teaches you the things you already know.

Practise the format, not just the facts

Most resit candidates failed on application or timing, not raw knowledge: running out of time on 50-question MRT1 sittings, or losing case-study marks by answering from memory instead of the scenario. Timed mocks in the real format fix both, and category breakdowns after each paper show whether your weak areas are actually improving.

That's a real risk after a fail, because the temptation is to leave it. Pick a date, tell someone, and sit it while the material is still warm. An open-ended 'when I feel ready' is how a single failed unit turns into a stalled qualification.
